Using detailed patterns and textures, it is my wish to give you a new whimsical perspective of something that you may have seen as average and dull to something beautiful by capturing the true essence of an animal, song, myth, or person to inspire your imagination.
Portrait Painting
I've always been fascinated by peoples' personalities and why they choose to behave the way they do and find I am more able to observe that through eye contact. As I encounter numerous people a day, whether hanging out with friends or walking on the streets, I always try to have as much eye contact as possible. I find it is important to see the eyes of the people I encounter in my daily life because it is through their eye contact that I am more able to feel out who they really are. I become artistically inspired by the illumination in the person’s eyes and always wish to capture that life through a painting of their face. I believe you are able to find truth through one's eyes more so than their words.
I paint portraits of people in my life that express more character in their eyes than what they may express through conversation. I find that oil paint is the most vibrant and fluid medium to express colors that I feel helps to bring a portrait alive. I also generally choose to paint life size for my compositions because I want the viewer to feel that they are actually seeing the person in real life.
Although I am continuing to grow as an artist and explore different mediums and subjects, the way people express themselves through their eyes never ceases to fascinate me. I wish to share my perceptions of people that I encounter through eye contact in my daily life.
